Coverage & network in Paraguay
Land in Paraguay, switch the travel line on, and you have data before you reach baggage reclaim. No SIM shop, no roaming surcharge, no swapping out the SIM you already use.
Plans run from $9.50 for 1 GB over 7 days up to $72 for 20 GB over 30 days. If you’re working while you travel, start at 10 GB — a video call burns roughly 1 GB an hour on its own.
Expect 4G/LTE rather than 5G. That is plenty for maps, messaging, ride-hailing and streaming, and it is the technology with the most consistent footprint outside the main towns. Tethering is allowed on every Paraguay plan, so a laptop or a travelling companion can share the connection.
Crossing borders on the same trip? The Latin America plan covers 17 destinations on one profile from $22.50. Otherwise there are separate plans for Bolivia from $10.50, Brazil from $9.50 and Chile from $8.50.
How to install it
- 1
Buy in a minute
Pick a Paraguay plan and pay. Your QR code arrives by email in seconds — no account, no shipping.
- 2
Install on Wi-Fi
Scan the code before you fly. The profile sits alongside your normal SIM and stays switched off until you need it.
- 3
Land connected
Turn on data roaming for the TravelNet line when you arrive. The plan starts counting down on that first connection, not at checkout.
Will my phone work?
You need an eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone: an iPhone XS or newer, a Pixel 3 or
newer, or a recent Samsung Galaxy S, Z or A-series flagship. Dial *#06# — if
an EID number is listed alongside the IMEI, the phone has an eSIM.
Travelling beyond Paraguay?
One Latin America plan covers 17 countries from $22.50 — worth it from the third border.
Paraguay eSIM questions
Which network does the Paraguay eSIM use?
Tigo Paraguay. It is one of Paraguay's main mobile networks, so coverage matches what local subscribers get rather than a thin roaming-only footprint.
Will I get 5G in Paraguay?
No. Paraguay plans run on 4G/LTE, which is what the network covers reliably. For maps, messaging, calls over data and streaming the difference is not something you'll notice.
How much data do I actually need for Paraguay?
Most travellers over-buy. Maps and messaging for a week is under 2 GB; streaming and video calls are what move the number. Start at 3 GB ($19) and top up if you run short — the 10 GB plan ($43.50) is for remote work and heavy streaming.
When does my Paraguay plan start counting down?
When the eSIM first connects to a network in Paraguay, not when you buy it. Install it at home a day or two before you fly — the 1 GB plan then gives you 7 days from arrival and the larger plans 30 days.
Can I use my Paraguay eSIM as a hotspot?
Yes. Tethering is enabled on every Paraguay plan, so you can share the connection with a laptop, a tablet or someone travelling with you. Hotspot data comes out of the same allowance.
Can I keep my own phone number while I'm in Paraguay?
Yes — that's the main reason to use an eSIM rather than a local SIM. Your home line stays active for calls, SMS and two-factor codes; the Paraguay eSIM sits alongside it as a data-only line. Leave data roaming off for your home line to avoid a surprise bill.
Do I need to register or show a passport to use a Paraguay eSIM?
No. The plan roams on a partner network, so there's no local SIM registration, no ID upload and no shop visit. You buy it, scan the QR code, and it works on arrival.
What happens if I run out of data in Paraguay?
You can top up from the same page — buy another Paraguay plan and it queues behind the current one on the same eSIM profile. There's no need to reinstall anything or scan a second QR code.
I'm also visiting Bolivia and Brazil — do I need separate eSIMs?
Not necessarily. The Latin America plan covers 17 destinations including Paraguay on a single profile from $22.50. If Paraguay is the bulk of the trip, a country plan plus a top-up is usually cheaper; if you're crossing several borders, the regional plan wins.
Will my phone work with a Paraguay eSIM?
If it's an iPhone XS or newer, a Pixel 3 or newer, or a recent Samsung Galaxy S, Z or A-series flagship, almost certainly — and it must be carrier-unlocked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID number: if one is listed, the phone has an eSIM. Our compatibility list has the full set.
