Where the Oceania plan works
The Oceania plans put one profile across Australia and New Zealand. It’s a short list, and that’s the honest state of the catalogue rather than a curated selection. Tonga has its own page, served by worldwide plans that list it explicitly.
Coverage: 5G in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch on 5G-marked plans. Solid LTE along the Australian highway network and both New Zealand islands’ main routes. Then nothing — the Nullarbor, the Tanami, the Kimberley, Fiordland, the Great Walks and the alpine passes.
A word about remote Australia. No mobile plan covers the outback properly, ours included. If you’re driving genuinely remote routes, carry a satellite messenger or a PLB. That’s what locals do, and it is not a substitute a data plan can offer.

Which countries does the Oceania plan cover?
Two: Australia and New Zealand. It's a short list, and we'd rather show two honestly than pad the number. Tonga has its own page, covered by worldwide plans that list it.
Is it cheaper than country plans?
It's line-ball — the Australia and New Zealand pages are worth a look for a single-country trip. If you're doing both — which most people on this route are — the regional plan saves you a second install and a switch mid-trip.
Which network will I be on?
A major national network in each country — the profile attaches to whichever partner serves it best where you are. We don't publish a single operator name for the plan.
Is 5G available?
Yes in Australian and New Zealand cities and larger towns, on plans marked 5G. Regional areas run on 4G/LTE, which in Australia reaches surprisingly far along the highway network.
How much data do I need for a month in Australia and New Zealand?
A month of driving with all-day navigation wants a big plan; a couple of weeks based in cities with hotel Wi-Fi fits a mid-size one. Both countries are heavy on maps and booking apps.
Will I have signal in the Australian outback?
Along the main highways and in the towns, yes. Off the highway is a different country: the Nullarbor, the Tanami, most of the Kimberley and large stretches of the Stuart Highway have nothing. Anyone driving remote routes in Australia should carry a satellite messenger, not just a phone plan. That's standard local advice, not a disclaimer.
What about New Zealand's South Island?
Towns, the main highways and the tourist routes are covered — Queenstown, Wanaka, Franz Josef, Te Anau. Fiordland, the Great Walks and the alpine passes lose signal quickly. Download offline maps for any tramping.
Does it cover Fiji, Samoa or the other Pacific islands?
No. Only Australia and New Zealand are on this plan. Tonga is covered by worldwide plans listed on its own page; the wider Pacific isn't in the catalogue — if that changes, it'll be listed on the destinations page rather than quietly folded into this one.
Do I need to register the eSIM?
No. Australia requires identity verification for locally bought prepaid SIMs; a roaming eSIM doesn't trigger it.
Can I tether?
Yes, in both. Useful on a campervan trip, where the eSIM is often the only internet you have.
