Where the North America plan works
The North America plans put one profile across the United States, Canada and Mexico — with Hawaii named explicitly on the deeper plans. Three countries, one allowance, automatic handover at the border.
When it beats country plans. It wins the moment you cross a border, because the alternative is two profiles and a switch at the checkpoint. For a single country, the United States, Canada and Mexico pages are the place to start.
Road-trip data is different. Navigation running all day, streaming in the car and slow motel Wi-Fi push usage well above what a city trip needs. Budget generously; running out somewhere on I-70 is a genuinely bad afternoon.
National parks are the coverage gap. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Banff, Jasper: signal at lodges and gates, little beyond. The Utah desert, the Canadian Rockies backcountry, Baja’s interior — nothing at all. Download offline maps for the whole route before you set off.
Data-only is worth planning around here. Hotels, rental desks and delivery drivers all text a local number by default. Keep your own line live for SMS; use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM for calls.

North America eSIM questions
Which countries does the North America plan cover?
The United States, Canada and Mexico — and the deeper plans list Hawaii explicitly too. It's a small list because it's a road-trip plan: the countries people drive between. The Caribbean islands sit under the Caribbean plan.
Is it cheaper than buying country plans?
Only if you cross a border. One country: check the United States, Canada or Mexico page first. Two or three: take this one and stop thinking about it.
Does it cover Hawaii?
Plans that list Hawaii on their coverage card do, explicitly. Hawaii also has its own page showing every plan that names it.
Which network will I be on?
A major national carrier in each country, handing over automatically at the border — no action needed from you. We don't publish a single operator name; you get a mainstream network in each market rather than a fringe one.
Is 5G available?
Yes, in all three, on plans marked 5G. US mid-band 5G is extensive, Canadian 5G covers the populated south, and Mexican 5G reaches Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and the resort cities. Everywhere else is 4G/LTE.
How much data do I need for a road trip?
This is where road trips differ from city trips. Navigation running eight hours a day, plus streaming in the car, plus hotel Wi-Fi that's often slow: go a size or two above what a city trip needs. Two weeks of city travel fits a mid-size plan; a month on the road wants the top of the ladder.
Will I have signal in the national parks?
Less than you want. Yellowstone, Yosemite, Zion, Banff and Jasper all have coverage near lodges, visitor centres and park gates and very little beyond. The Utah desert, the Canadian Rockies backcountry and Baja's interior have nothing. Download offline maps before you drive in — for the whole route, not just the park.
Does it work in the far north — Yukon, Northwest Territories, Alaska?
Along the main highways and in the towns, patchily. Whitehorse and Yellowknife have coverage; the road between them largely doesn't. Treat any northern drive as an offline route with occasional signal.
Can I make phone calls with it?
Not over the cellular network — it's data-only. This matters more in North America than most places, because hotels, rental car desks, restaurants and delivery drivers all default to texting a local number. Keep your own line active for SMS and use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the data.
Do I need a local address to activate it?
No. US prepaid SIMs sometimes require one, which is awkward for visitors. A roaming eSIM requires nothing.
Can I tether?
Yes, in all three countries. Given how variable North American hotel Wi-Fi is, it's frequently the faster option.
