The US eSIM runs on T-Mobile, which has the widest 5G footprint of the three national networks and solid nationwide LTE.
Plans run from $9 for 1 GB over 7 days to $68.50 for 20 GB over 30 days. Two weeks of city travel fits in 5 GB ($27); a genuine road trip with all-day navigation and streaming needs 10 GB ($41.50) or more.
Cities and highways are well covered, with mid-band 5G across most metro areas. New York, Chicago, Boston and DC subway platforms all have signal; the tunnels between them mostly don’t yet.
National parks are the real gap. Yosemite Valley, Grand Canyon South Rim, Zion and the developed parts of Yellowstone have some coverage near lodges and visitor centres. The backcountry, the canyon floors, Death Valley and most of the Utah and Nevada desert road network have nothing on any carrier. Download offline maps before you drive into a park — not as a precaution, as a plan.
Data-only matters more in the US than elsewhere. Hotels, rental car desks, restaurants and delivery drivers all default to texting a US number. Keep your own line active for SMS, and use WhatsApp or FaceTime over the eSIM data for calls.

United States eSIM questions
Which network does the US eSIM use?
T-Mobile, which has the largest 5G footprint in the United States and strong nationwide LTE. For visitors it's usually the best of the three national networks, particularly in cities and along the interstate corridors.
Is Hawaii or Alaska included?
Hawaii is sold as its own destination here — see the Hawaii plan from $9 — because the old site listed it separately. Alaska isn't a separate product; coverage there follows the road network and Anchorage, and drops away fast outside it.
Is 5G available in the US?
Yes, extensively. T-Mobile's mid-band 5G reaches most metro areas and a lot of suburban and highway coverage besides. Rural stretches fall back to LTE, and there are still large parts of the interior West with no service on any network.
How much data do I need for a two-week US trip?
5 GB ($27) for a normal two weeks of city travel with hotel Wi-Fi. A road trip is different — navigation running eight hours a day plus streaming in the car pushes you to 10 GB ($41.50) or 20 GB ($68.50). Americans use a lot of data because everything assumes you have it.
Will I have signal in the national parks?
Patchy, and less than you'd hope. Yosemite Valley, Grand Canyon South Rim, Zion Canyon and the developed areas of Yellowstone have some coverage near the lodges and visitor centres. Backcountry, canyon floors, most of Death Valley and the Utah desert roads have nothing. Download offline maps for every park before you drive in — this is the single most useful preparation for a US road trip.
Can I make calls with it?
Not over the cellular network — it's data-only. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Signal and Google Voice work over the data connection. Your home number stays live on your own line for calls and SMS, which matters in the US where hotels, rental car desks and restaurants still text you.
Do I need to register or provide an address?
No. US prepaid SIMs sometimes ask for a local address, which is awkward for visitors. A roaming eSIM asks for nothing.
Does it work in Canada or Mexico?
No, the US plan is US-only. The North America plan covers the United States, Canada and Mexico on one profile from $8.50 — the obvious choice if you're crossing a border. Individually there's Canada from $8.50 and Mexico from $7.50.
Can I tether?
Yes, hotspot is enabled on all US plans and it's genuinely useful — American hotel Wi-Fi is often either slow, paywalled behind a loyalty programme, or both.
Will it work on the subway in New York?
On the platforms, yes — the NYC subway has mobile coverage at all stations. Between stations in the tunnels, mostly not, though more sections are being connected. Chicago, Boston and DC are similar.
