Coverage & network in Spain
Spain sells through TravelNet’s multi-country European profiles — every plan on this page works in Spain, and the coverage counter on each card shows where else it reaches. For most Spanish trips that’s a feature, not a compromise: the Iberian loop through Portugal, or the hop into France, stays on the same eSIM.
Coverage: 5G in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Malaga and most provincial capitals on 5G-marked plans. Strong LTE along the Mediterranean coast, the AP motorways and the AVE corridors. The Balearics are well served. Thin spots are the Pyrenean high valleys, parts of the Picos de Europa, and the empty interior between Madrid and Extremadura.
Two things travellers get wrong here. The Canary Islands were sold as a separate product on the old site and still have their own page — network-wise they’re Spanish, but check which plan you bought. And Andorra is not Spain and not the EU: phones routinely latch onto Andorran networks near the border, and Andorra has a separate page — check your plan’s coverage list before relying on it there.

Which network does the Spain eSIM use?
The plans for Spain are multi-country European profiles that attach to major Spanish networks on arrival, picking the strongest partner where you are rather than locking to one operator. In Barcelona every network is fine; the roaming approach means you're not tied to one operator's weak spots in Extremadura or along the Camino either.
Why do Spain plans list other countries too?
Because they're regional eSIMs — one profile whose allowance works across every country on its coverage list, Spain included. For a Spain-only trip nothing changes: install, land, connect. For an Iberian or wider European loop, the same plan keeps working after the border, which is exactly what most trips here look like.
Are the Canary Islands and Balearics included?
The Balearics — Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Formentera — are covered as part of Spain. The Canary Islands are listed separately on this site as Canary Islands because they were sold as their own product; in network terms they run on the same Spanish operators.
Is 5G available in Spain?
Yes, widely, on plans marked 5G. Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao, Malaga and most provincial capitals have real 5G. Everywhere else is 4G/LTE with good coverage along the coast, the AP motorways and the AVE rail corridors.
How much data do I need for a week in Spain?
A small plan is comfortable for a week of city breaks and beaches. A two-week road trip through Andalusia with navigation running wants a mid-size one, and working from Barcelona or Valencia for a month puts you at the top of the ladder. Count 100–200 MB a day plus 1 GB per hour of video.
Will it work on the AVE high-speed trains?
Along most of the Madrid–Barcelona, Madrid–Seville and Madrid–Valencia corridors, yes, with dropouts in tunnels. Onboard Wi-Fi via the Renfe app is available on many services.
What about walking the Camino de Santiago?
Coverage along the Camino Francés is better than most walkers expect — the villages, albergues and towns are all connected. The gaps are on the higher stages: the climb over the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles, O Cebreiro and the Cruz de Ferro section. Download the stage maps offline.
Do I need to register or show a passport?
No. Spanish prepaid SIMs require ID registration at the point of sale; a roaming eSIM does not. Install it before you fly and it connects on landing.
Can I use it in Portugal, France or Andorra?
Check the coverage list on the plan you pick — most Spain plans are regional and already include Portugal and France, so one eSIM covers an Iberian loop. Andorra is the exception worth checking twice: it is not an EU roaming destination and has its own page — don't assume it's included in anything.
Can I tether?
Yes, hotspot is enabled on every Spain plan. Worth having in a country where apartment and hostel Wi-Fi ranges from excellent to theoretical.
