Coverage & network in Slovakia

TravelNet’s Slovakia eSIM is a data-only plan on the Slovak Telekom network. Your own number stays live for calls and two-factor codes; everything data-hungry runs on the local network instead.

Plans run from $6.50 for 1 GB over 7 days up to $49.50 for 20 GB over 30 days. If you’re working while you travel, start at 10 GB — a video call burns roughly 1 GB an hour on its own.

5G is live in Slovakia, and the eSIM will use it wherever your handset and the network both support it. Away from the cities you’ll drop to 4G/LTE, which is what most of the country actually runs on. Tethering is allowed on every Slovakia plan, so a laptop or a travelling companion can share the connection.

Crossing borders on the same trip? The Europe plan covers 47 destinations on one profile from $7.50. Otherwise there are separate plans for Belgium from $5, Bosnia and Herzegovina from $5 and Bulgaria from $4.50.

How to install it

  1. 1

    Buy in a minute

Pick a Slovakia plan and pay. Your QR code arrives by email in seconds — no account, no shipping.

  2. 2

    Install on Wi-Fi

Scan the code before you fly. The profile sits alongside your normal SIM and stays switched off until you need it.

  3. 3

    Land connected

Turn on data roaming for the TravelNet line when you arrive. The plan starts counting down on that first connection, not at checkout.

Will my phone work?

You need an eSIM-capable, carrier-unlocked phone: an iPhone XS or newer, a Pixel 3 or newer, or a recent Samsung Galaxy S, Z or A-series flagship. Dial *#06# — if an EID number is listed alongside the IMEI, the phone has an eSIM.

See the full compatibility list.

Travelling beyond Slovakia?

One Europe plan covers 47 countries from $7.50 — worth it from the third border.

Slovakia eSIM questions

Which network does the Slovakia eSIM use?

Slovak Telekom. It is one of Slovakia's main mobile networks, so coverage matches what local subscribers get rather than a thin roaming-only footprint.

Will I get 5G in Slovakia?

Yes, where Slovak Telekom has deployed it and your phone supports it. Outside those areas the eSIM falls back to 4G/LTE automatically — you won't need to change any setting.

How much data do I actually need for Slovakia?

Count on 100–200 MB a day if you're mostly using maps and messaging, and 1 GB an hour once video is involved. That puts a long weekend in Slovakia at 1–3 GB (from $6.50) and a two-week trip nearer 5–10 GB.

When does my Slovakia plan start counting down?

When the eSIM first connects to a network in Slovakia, not when you buy it. Install it at home a day or two before you fly — the 1 GB plan then gives you 7 days from arrival and the larger plans 30 days.

Can I use my Slovakia eSIM as a hotspot?

Yes. Tethering is enabled on every Slovakia plan, so you can share the connection with a laptop, a tablet or someone travelling with you. Hotspot data comes out of the same allowance.

Can I keep my own phone number while I'm in Slovakia?

Yes — that's the main reason to use an eSIM rather than a local SIM. Your home line stays active for calls, SMS and two-factor codes; the Slovakia eSIM sits alongside it as a data-only line. Leave data roaming off for your home line to avoid a surprise bill.

Do I need to register or show a passport to use a Slovakia eSIM?

No. The plan roams on a partner network, so there's no local SIM registration, no ID upload and no shop visit. You buy it, scan the QR code, and it works on arrival.

What happens if I run out of data in Slovakia?

You can top up from the same page — buy another Slovakia plan and it queues behind the current one on the same eSIM profile. There's no need to reinstall anything or scan a second QR code.

I'm also visiting Belgium and Bosnia and Herzegovina — do I need separate eSIMs?

Not necessarily. The Europe plan covers 47 destinations including Slovakia on a single profile from $7.50. If Slovakia is the bulk of the trip, a country plan plus a top-up is usually cheaper; if you're crossing several borders, the regional plan wins.

Will my phone work with a Slovakia eSIM?

If it's an iPhone XS or newer, a Pixel 3 or newer, or a recent Samsung Galaxy S, Z or A-series flagship, almost certainly — and it must be carrier-unlocked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID number: if one is listed, the phone has an eSIM. Our compatibility list has the full set.
