Which network does the Uganda eSIM use?
MTN Uganda. It is one of Uganda's main mobile networks, so coverage matches what local subscribers get rather than a thin roaming-only footprint.
Will I get 5G in Uganda?
Yes, where MTN Uganda has deployed it and your phone supports it. Outside those areas the eSIM falls back to 4G/LTE automatically — you won't need to change any setting.
How much data do I actually need for Uganda?
Most travellers over-buy. Maps and messaging for a week is under 2 GB; streaming and video calls are what move the number. Start at 3 GB ($24) and top up if you run short — the 10 GB plan ($55) is for remote work and heavy streaming.
When does my Uganda plan start counting down?
When the eSIM first connects to a network in Uganda, not when you buy it. Install it at home a day or two before you fly — the 1 GB plan then gives you 7 days from arrival and the larger plans 30 days.
Can I use my Uganda eSIM as a hotspot?
Yes. Tethering is enabled on every Uganda plan, so you can share the connection with a laptop, a tablet or someone travelling with you. Hotspot data comes out of the same allowance.
Can I keep my own phone number while I'm in Uganda?
