Coverage & network in France
France sells through TravelNet’s multi-country European profiles — every plan on this page works in France, and the coverage counter on each card shows where else it reaches. For most French trips that’s the right shape anyway: Paris pairs with Brussels, the Riviera runs into Italy, and the same eSIM keeps working after the border.
Coverage: 5G in Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nice and Lille on 5G-marked plans. Strong LTE along the autoroutes, the TGV corridors and the coasts, plus the Métro and RER including tunnels. Thin spots are the high Alps and Pyrenees away from resorts, and the emptier stretches of the Massif Central.

Which network does the France eSIM use?
The plans for France are multi-country European profiles that attach to major French networks on arrival, picking the strongest partner where you are rather than locking to one operator. In Paris every operator is fine; the roaming approach means the Ardèche, the Massif Central and the high Alps aren't hostage to a single network's footprint.
Why do France plans list other countries too?
Because they're regional eSIMs — one profile whose allowance works across every country on its coverage list, France included. For a France-only trip nothing changes: install, land, connect. For the Paris–Brussels–Amsterdam or France–Italy–Spain route, the same plan keeps working after the border.
Does it work on the Paris Métro and RER?
Yes. Mobile coverage has been deployed across the Métro network including tunnels, and the RER lines are covered too. It's one of the better-connected metro systems in Europe.
Is 5G available in France?
Yes, on plans marked 5G — Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nice, Lille and most large cities. Elsewhere you're on 4G/LTE, which covers the autoroute network, the TGV lines and the coastline well.
How much data do I need for a week in Paris?
A small plan covers a week comfortably — maps, Citymapper, messaging, photos. Free Wi-Fi in cafés and museums does some of the work. Two weeks touring by car wants a size up, because navigation runs continuously.
Will it work on the TGV?
Along most of the high-speed network, yes, with dropouts in tunnels and cuttings. Coverage is best on the LGV Sud-Est and Atlantique corridors. Onboard Wi-Fi exists on most TGV INOUI services.
What about the Alps and Pyrenees?
Resorts, valley floors and the main passes are covered — Chamonix, Val d'Isère, Les Deux Alpes and the Tour de France cols all have signal. High trails and the far side of ridgelines don't. Standard mountain rules: download offline maps before you go up.
Are Corsica and the overseas territories included?
Corsica, yes — it's covered by the mainland French networks and any plan that covers France. Overseas départements are separate destinations: Réunion, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy each have their own page.
Do I need ID to activate it?
No. French prepaid SIMs require identity registration; a roaming eSIM doesn't. Install before you fly, enable data roaming on the travel line when you land.
Can I use it in Monaco, Switzerland or Belgium?
Check the coverage list on the plan you pick. Most France plans are regional and already include Switzerland and Belgium. Monaco runs its own network and now has its own page — phones drift onto Monegasque networks all along the Riviera east of Nice, so if Monaco is on your route, check the coverage list or buy its plan.
Can I tether?
Yes, hotspot is enabled on every France plan. Useful on the TGV and in gîtes, where the advertised Wi-Fi and the actual Wi-Fi are often different things.
